Not even a year after marrying the guy she’d thought was the
love of her life, Cora Knowles is already requesting a divorce. To her
recollection, philandering was not a part of her wedding vows, and she wasn’t
about to stand by while ‘Sally from accounts’ rolled about on her Egyptian
cotton sheets.

While trying to soothe her broken heart with copious amounts
of cake and liqueur chocolates, her best friend, Olivia suggests that the best
way to get over someone, is to get under someone else. Problems arise when the
one Cora ‘gets under’ turns out to be the son of the Director of
Prosecution—her boss. Worse still, he’s young. Younger than Cora originally
thought, and younger than she’s comfortable with.

But, when the attraction is undeniable, Cora needs to decide
whether she’ll turn her back on the enigmatic Brandon Sharp, or take a risk and
follow her heart, even though she promised herself she’d never do that again…

“Hashtag that one ‘slaying life’,” Olivia
suggested. “That bastard will see how happy you look and realise how badly
he fucked up.” She sucked back on a cigarette then blew the smoke out in a
rush. “Come to think of it. We need to go out tonight. That will really piss
him off. You can post photos and everything.”

“Go out?” The idea seemed completely insane to me.

She stubbed out her cigarette in a small aluminium ashtray.
“Yes, Cora. I love you, and I think you’re gorgeous, but lying on my couch for
months on end, eating liqueur chocolates while watching Netflix isn’t doing a
thing for your figure.”

“Jack always said that saying ‘but’ meant you could discount
everything that was said before it.”

She picked up her Prada handbag and slid it over her arm.
“Fuck Jack. You should discount everything he ever said to you before the
moment you saw his butt as he pumped that Sally woman from behind in your
marital bed.”

My stomach soured at the memory. “Don’t remind me.”

He didn’t speak at first, he just slid one hand over my hip
until it flattened possessively against my stomach, pulling me against him as
his head lowered to the curve of my neck and he inhaled deeply. I could barely
breathe. Every nerve in my body was alive and screaming for more. I had never,
ever, ever, ever, ever, had this reaction to a man before. The question of
whether or not I could go through with a one-night stand suddenly became a moot
point. His touch had already melted my panties right off.

“Want to get out of here?” His voice cut through every other
sound in the room, so clear. It felt like a wild promise curling through my
body until it pooled as a heat between my thighs.

His head lolled back against the wall as my hand wrapped
around his base before I drew him into my mouth, swallowing him back with a
greed I never knew I possessed. Who was this woman? I was giving head like a
porn star on my knees in a hotel room with a stranger.

I’d never felt so free in my entire life.

He was on his knees. I was still against the wall, panting,
waiting. Reaching up, he popped the clasp on my bra then dragged his fingers
down the skin of my back, hooking my panties, dragging them down too. Then with
a groan, he grabbed my arse cheeks, squeezing hard before he bit down. My eyes
went wide and I gasped, a bolt of lust landing right in the centre of my core.
What the hell was that?

“That arse.” The words were a rumble against my skin as he
stood back up, spinning me so I was facing him again. I let my bra fall down my
arms and his eyes darkened. “Those tits.”

“Are you
okay, Delia?” The voice in her ear was familiar; she’d heard it nearly every
day for the past year, even if she hadn’t seen the man in person for weeks on
Her boss.
Jager McNeill.
“Fine,” she
spluttered, the word ending in a cough.
Of course,
it was foolish to be embarrassed since she had dived in the water to save a
child. And yet, it still felt terribly awkward to be caught with her dress up
around her waist today of all days when she’d wanted to make the perfect
professional impression.
Also, she’d
scratched him.
Coughed all
over him.
If she
hadn’t had a crush on him once upon a time, maybe she wouldn’t be tingling from
head to toe right now in spite of everything. But she feared if she tried to
swim away from him to escape all the feelings, she just might drown. She was
surprised to notice how far she’d drifted from the dock in her search. Behind
them, she noticed the transport skiff that Cyril had sent out to meet Jager’s
seaplane. Jager must have been arriving at the same time she’d jumped into the
“Hold onto
my shoulders,” he told her, shifting their positions in the water so he faced
her. “I’ll tow you to the dock.”
Nose to
nose with him, Delia stared up into his steel-blue eyes. She thought she’d
gotten used to his good looks in the past two years that they’d known each
other. His dark hair and sharp, shadowed jaw made for enticing contrasts to
those incredibly blue eyes. His hair had grown longer in the past months, as if
barber visits were the last thing on his mind. But the way the damp strands
curled along the strong column of his neck only added to the appeal.
This close,
she had the benefit of sensing the wealth of muscle in his athletic body where
he held her. Feeling the flush of heat course through her, she ducked deeper
into the cold water to hide her reaction to him.
“I can make
it.” Shaking her head, she scattered droplets from her wet hair. “I just needed
to catch my breath.”
attempted to paddle away, but Jager only gripped her tighter.
Oh. My.
Feeling the
warmth of his chest through their clingy clothes roused an ache she should not
be feeling for her boss. Adding to the problem, the strapless bra she’d been
wearing had shifted lower on her rib cage where it did absolutely no good.
“Humor me,”
he ordered her, his voice as controlled as his movements. “You’re exhausted and
dry land is farther away than it looks.” He took one of her hands and placed it
on his right shoulder. Then, turning away from her, he very deliberately set
her other hand on his left shoulder.
He began to
swim toward the dock with measured strokes, towing her along behind him. Water
lapped over them in light waves. She felt every ripple of his muscles under her
palms as the light waves swished over them. She debated fishing one hand down
her dress to haul up her bra before they reached land, but decided the
potential scolding from Jager if she let go of him wasn’t worth it. So she
clung to him and gritted her teeth against the friction of her pebbled breasts
rubbing against his back. By now he had to be as keenly aware of her as she was
of him.
The only
positive of this awkward reunion?
Any anxiety
she had about talking business with him was utterly eclipsed by physical
awareness. So when they reached land, she clamped onto the dock, evenly met his
blue gaze and said, “I definitely deserve a raise.”

Book Review – Night and Day (Natexus, #2.5) – Victoria L. James

** Review by Gayle from Bloggers From Down Under **

Victoria L. James….I absolutely adore her and her writing hand. A HUGE fan I couldn’t wait to leap into Night and Day when it fell into my kindle because I knew without reading a word that I would be taken on a magical journey.

We are again reunited with Danni and Marcus in this beautifully written novella.
This is their story about what life is like for the both of them on the road. With Danni’s career blossoming each and every single day, Marcus is with Danni all the way supporting Danni and her dream to be a star.

But can Marcus continue once they return home to visit their loved ones?
Will Marcus continue to support Danni or is home in England where he truly belongs?
And secrets….What secrets will be revealed?
Who will feel the wrath of what’s discovered?
Can Danni and Marcus both make it through to the other side?

Again Victoria L James has yet again delivered a beautiful, heart-felt, sinfully delicious novella. Everything that a reader could possibly ask for. So much beauty and warmth contained in every page turned, it was simply heart melting and highly emotional. Victoria L James never fails to deliver.

Night and Day….Simply breathtaking perfection.

5 stunningly beautiful stars.

Book Review – Shattered Souls (To Love and Serve 1) by Alison Mello

Alison Mello SS 1

** Provided on behalf of the author for an honest review **
** Review by Gayle from Bloggers From Down Under **

This is a first for me by this author. What grabbed my complete attention was the synopsis to this story. After reading it I needed to read this novel hoping that it lived up to the expectations that I had.

What I did get was a heartbreaking story about two people, Keegan and Lexi, both so completely shattered and broken from their pasts that trying to push through to strive for a future is hard. The nightmares for them both torment them on a regular basis. The flash backs are painful. Their pasts constantly in the forefront of their minds.

So what happens when two shattered souls are joined together?
What happens when Keegan and Lexi’s lives collide?
Can two broken people help each other?
Can both Keegan and Lexi help each other with the turmoil and pain that they suffer from?
Can they make a future or will they be forever stuck in the past just simply paddling through life?

A great read that had me intrigued from beginning to end.

I absolutely loved that the main character Lexi was female, a strong woman who comes home from war a shattered soul but finds the courage to fight her demons.

Keegan….What an amazing guy. Broken himself but yet so willing to give himself to Lexi to help her demons, but to also help him with his own.

Overall a powerful read that sheds light on the demons people face after war, the struggles of losing a partner and the turmoil faced with a scarred childhood.

4 stars.

Four times a night, I’d wake to kiss her to make sure she was still with me, and every time I brushed my lips to hers, she sighed softly and smiled in her sleep, making me feel more content than I’d ever felt in my life. My first loves had been removed from that special place in my heart, meaning she had full ownership of my mind, my love, and most importantly, my body.

Happiness became my new best friend, no matter how much I refused to believe it. Everything made me feel alive. Everything shone so damn bright with my personal sunshine walking beside me.

But happiness is always temporary. The girl the whole world wanted now only wanted me.

We didn’t know that our new lives together would lure out the snakes from our pasts. Our futures were no longer certain, but I wasn’t willing to give up on her. On us.

Not all men are like me. I’m Marcus goddamn Anderson.

The damaged. The healed. The lover. The one who never quits.

And I had a woman to protect.

That beautiful, unexpected, thrilling, surprise love of mine.

Meet The Author:

Victoria L James is a teenage girl stuck in a thirty-something year-olds body. Living somewhere ‘oop north’ in England, she has had a strong passion for words and stories going as far back as she can remember, which she credits to her grandmother and her love of reading anything that was on sale and cheap from the local market stall. Never once did she think she would release a novel, though. At best, she thought her love of language and her ability to create stories in her mind would provide her with a ‘get out of jail free’ card whenever she messed up and her

parents were mad at her during her teenage years… and when even that didn’t work out, she thought she was pretty much done for.

When an opportunity presented itself for her to take a back seat from paid working life for a few years, she knew straight away that she had to try and write about a few of these worlds she’d come up with along the way, and quieten all the voices in her head without racking up a heavy psychiatry bill for the pleasure.

Wearing her heart on her sleeve and trying to lighten her friends’ and family’s lives with naff, and more often than not, badly timed, nineties jokes, she has yet to learn the art of knowing when to shut up. Which is another reason writing became a passion of hers. With pen and paper, there are no limits.

A firm believer in never quitting, with a ridiculous obsession for all things Rocky, she hopes that one day she writes a story that will inspire at least one person out there to keep on going if they’re struggling. Other than that, she’s just a regular old converse wearing, corona sipping, English version of Chandler Bing, who loves and adores her family more than life itself. Oh, and she also has two cats. Every writer has to mention their cats, right?
