Book Review – The Forbidden by Jodi Ellen Malpas

**Received for honest review**
**Reviewed By Mel from Bloggers From Down Under**

I have been sitting on this review for a few days now trying to work out how to write this review. Should I just keep it just about the book, should I divulge information with personal experience or should I keep it simple? My answer came to me very easily. When we started our blog three years ago we always said we would be totally honest and keep it real so that’s what I will do!!

When I received the sign up for The Forbidden it was seriously a no brainer, it’s Jodi. We love her and everything she writes. Little did I realise I would be taken to a place that was way too close for comfort. Never did I realise that lots of my own experiences would resurface. Never did I realise that my own personal grief would come back with vengeance, the hurt, the pain, the trauma. But in saying that did I love this book? Absolutely YES and why? Because I saw things from an unfamiliar perspective. It was raw, it was emotional, it was painful, it was beautiful. This is the first time a book has made me tear up in nearly twelve months. Actually this is probably one of the only books I have 5 starred in months, and why? Because I wasn’t feeling anything with any book due to my personal experience. My broken button was broken no matter what I read, how dark or how horrific it was it didn’t do anything until The Forbidden!!

“If I ever lay eyes on you again, Annie, I can’t promise I’ll do what’s best and walk away next time.”

Annie, young, funny, sexy, focused. Annie is a hard worker. She has recently started her own business as an architect. She has worked very hard to get to where she is and doesn’t have time for much of a social life. She has her few close friends but she works every chance she can get. Boyfriends? What are they? Something Annie doesn’t have time for. She doesn’t want the hassle, she wants to succeed in her business and nothing will stop her from getting to where she needs to be, plus no one has swept her off her feet. She has never had that surge of electricity between her and another male and she won’t settle for anything other than that spark and chemistry. Sure she has her little fun on the side, but rarely.

One night out with her best friends Annie comes across Jack, the man that is about to flip her world.

Jack is a young 35-year-old who is currently married to a woman who he doesn’t love, a woman that is abusive, a woman that is needy, a woman that is out of her mind crazy, a woman that loves to drink.

So why doesn’t he just leave?

He has tried, and let’s just say it didn’t go down well.

Jack heads into a bar, he needs a drink, he needs to escape his reality for a bit. He needs to forget his home life and unwind.

Then they meet.

“If I ever lay eyes on you again, Annie, I can’t promise I’ll do what’s best and walk away next time.”

There’s sparks.
There’s chemistry.
There’s attraction.
One night of passion.
One night of pure bliss.
Adultery is committed.

“I fucked a fucking stranger.”

Annie leaves before he wakes. She believes it’s just for one night never to cross paths again but there is a problem. She can’t get him out of her mind. Annie keeps replaying their night together repeatedly in her head.

What happens when you come face to face with the one man that gave you spark, the one man you had chemistry with, the one man who set your world alight?

What happens when you come face to face with his wife?

“He’s seen me at my weakest. I’ve seen him at his. Yet together we’re probably stronger than ever.”

Annie’s world just got flipped upside down when she comes face to face with the man that she committed adultery with?

Can they keep it a secret?
What happens when they must work together on the same project?

Annie fights the temptation of Jack for as long as she can,. She’s not that person, she doesn’t want to be the other woman, she doesn’t believe in sleeping with married men.

The attraction is to great.
She gives in.

“I stare into the gray eyes of a man who was forbidden. A man who should never have been touched. A man who wasn’t mine.”

Will Jack leave his wife or will Annie stay as the other woman?

“My pulse, my heartbeat, my breath. Everything.”

Do you believe in karma? I personally do.

Was what Jack and Annie went through karma coming back for what they did? Or is it just one of those things?

“My sanctuary. My haven. My home.”

As I said earlier I loved this book. It brought me to tears. It took me on a journey of love, passion and fate. Some parts were painful to read, some parts where hot as hell but overall this was an amazing read. A very different read from the books we are used to from Jodi but it was brilliant. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. This is a definite must-read book that will leave you breathless and with a major book hangover!!

“I’ll hold your hand if you hold mine,”

Our Book Review – My Dirty Boss by Elaine May

Front Cover

** Provided on behalf of the author for an honest review **
** Review by Gayle from Bloggers From Down Under **

Okay, okay. So I am HUGE fan of Elaine May. I have read everything that she has written and I’ve loved every novel. She writes with such depth and beauty that it completely captures your heart every single time.

So you can imagine my surprise to even consider the idea that Elaine could write a novel of this calibre.
People this is all out dirty. It’s deliciously dirty and wickedly filthy…..And I loved absolutely every minute of it.

We meet Beth.

She’s in love.
Her man Peter is everything she could have hoped for.
High school sweethearts, they were each others soul mate.
So much so that Beth moved to Amsterdam for him.
She could adjust to the move, so long as she had Peter by her side.
He was her rock, her best friend, her everything.
But in a split second, Beths world was shattered.
Her heart ripped to pieces.
The grief, absolutely crippling.
So Beth ran, ran back home to her family.

Now living with her sister Beth has sworn off all men. She wants to concentrate on herself. Learn to heal from the heartache.
She gets a job at a toy store.
She enjoys it.
She can’t wait until opening day.
But she has to meet her boss.
Her very dark, sexy and dangerous boss Daniel.

We meet Daniel.
He’s strong, independant, drool worthy. He’s sin on legs, the devil.
Every woman wants him.
He knows it, but relationships are not his thing.
He takes what he wants from one, then moves on to the other.
He likes it that way.
That is until he meets his employee, beautiful and innocent Beth.

Welcome to Beth and Daniels world.
A world of sin and lust.
A world of all things taboo.
A world where limits are pushed.
A world where secrets are revealed and emotions layed out.
A world of two opposites with so much in common.

Beth will be Daniels game changer.
Daniel will be Beths game changer.
And it’s explosive.

Guys I seriously cannot recommend this novel high enough. It’s dark, edgy, sinfully delicious and downright dirty. It’s perfection.

A must read.

5 stars.

Book Review – All I Am: Drew’s Story (This Man #3.5) by Jodi Ellen Malpas

** Provided on behalf of the author for an honest review **
** Review by Gayle from Bloggers From Down Under **

Jesse Ward and the This Man Series…..Sheer brilliance, so you could only imagine my excitement knowing that we were getting Drew’s story.
And boy it did not disappoint.

Drew. Pushing 40 years old, his life is settled. A great job, a beautiful little girl to come home to, and Hux, the club where all things naughty happen with no strings attached.
Just the way Drew likes it. There is no room for relationships with Drew, because after-all, he had already been burned and has no intention of ever feeling that way again.

But when a young and beautiful Raya walks into Hux wanting a cold and an unemotional man to take her pain and free her from her thoughts, Drew is chosen.

Easy right?
Drew wants no attachment.
Raya doesn’t want it either.
They are perfect for one another.

But fate has other ideas.
What happens when emotions start to get involved?
What happens when Drew starts to question everything he thought he wanted?
What happens when Raya starts to question if cold and unemotional is really what she wants?

You guessed it guys…….You get one explosive, thought provoking, powerful read.

What can I say other than All I Am is sheer brilliance. A perfect novella delving into Drew and Raya’s world, and their sinfully delicious ways.
A perfect novella that makes you question everything you thought you wanted.
A perfect novella that will leave you breathless and wanting more.

We are also reunited with Jesse, Ava, Sam and Kate in this raw, gritty, downright dirty novella that I couldn’t get enough of.
For anyone who is a HUGE JEM fan just like me, you definitely don’t want to miss this.

Book Review – Dig Deep by Lyssa Layne

** Review by Kylie from Bloggers From Down Under **

Lindy has a troubled past that nobody but her brother knows about.
Fleeing a toxic relationship, Lindy finds herself on her brothers doorstep, meeting his new wife for the very first time.

Not only is she meeting new family members, but she’s about to meet Kip, a man who could very well sweep her off her feet.

But Lindy is damaged. So much so, she has vowed never to put her trust in another man ever again.

But even though she’s been warned to stay clear of Kip, Lindy is drawn to him, and it’s not only because he can get her once promising beach volleyball career back on track.

This short story is just the beginning of what is going to be a fantastic series. Ending with so many leads this story could take, I can’t wait to find out the rest of Lindy and Kips story.

Eagerly anticipating the next part in this series……..

A debut novel from this author, and what can I say…..I have so much love for this novel. Simply magical.

But her job, not so much.
Feeling underappreciated, Mac makes the decision to go home for the summer.
Home being Tennessee.

But how can she knowing she is going back home to the man that sent her away to begin with?

We meet Lawson.
Born and bred in Tennessee, life is great for Lawson.
Loves his work, his home town.
And is very much single.
Lawson doesn’t want a relationship with anyone.
He’s happy for one night with no repeats.
But Mac’s return has left him confused.
How after 6 years can she evoke these feelings from him?

Welcome to Mac and Lawson’s world……

Guys this is a brilliant read. I am seriously lost for words. Such a beautifully written, detailed, heartfelt read that I couldn’t put down. A novel stripped back from any sort of glitz and glamour, a novel that for me (without sounding insulting) that was stripped back from any unnecessary situations or scenarios. A novel that had such purity and innocence to it, I couldn’t help but be drawn to every page. Don’t get me wrong it’s all things sinful and deliciously naughty, but overall a breathtaking story about opening your heart and soul and trust that you won’t be broken.

A brilliant debut novel from this author. I cannot wait for what the author has installed for us next.

5 stars.

** Review by Gayle from Bloggers From Down Under **

Natasha Madison has done it again. Cheeky is just that…Cheeky with all sorts of absolute brilliance.

We meet Lexi and Bradley.
They grew up with one another.
Bradley is Lexi’s brothers best friend.
Friends since forever, but never anything else.
Lexi is simply unattainable.
They haven’t seen one another for years.

So what are the chances that they both happen to be going to Vegas. Same flight, same hotel, both solo and staying both for a week?
Yep you guessed it…..They are both headed for Vegas.
And we know how that goes right?
What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas……

Both Lexi and Bradley make a deal.
Together, one week, no strings attached. Just a week of all things sinful, then back to reality when the trip is over.

Sounds easy right?
You have no idea how wrong it will be….

What an absolute brilliant read. I loved, loved, loved it. It was lighthearted, humorous, fun and flirty and all things naughty.
The chemistry between both Lexi and Bradley was just explosive.
And their get down and dirty time? Simply delicious.
Overall a fun loving, quirky and all things naughty read that I couldn’t put down.

Thank you Natasha Madison for yet another novel that not only did I absolutely love, but a novel that kept me entertained from beginning to end.
