Our Book Review – When Two Hearts Collide: A Game of Hearts Novel – Sonya Loveday and Candace Knoebel

** Review by Gayle from Bloggers From Down Under **

It can be a beautiful thing, but also painful.
It can make your life whole, but it can also tear you apart.
It’s one of those emotions we all long to feel.

But what happens when the one you love is unattainable?
What happens when your one true love lives worlds a part?
What happens when you’ve finally found your soul mate, but it just won’t work?
You break.
You hurt.
You bleed.
It crushes your very core.

Welcome to Charlie and Charlotte’s world.

Charlie lives in England, Charlotte in the United States.
A chance meeting while Charlotte was competing, their chemistry was off the charts.
They wanted each other.
They needed each other.
But Charlie couldn’t.
He wouldn’t allow to get emotionally attached.
It scared him to death.
So they parted ways.
But they were never far from each others thoughts.

Move forward two years.
Charlie and Charlottes worlds collide one more time.
But will they get their happily ever after?

I’ve not read either of these authors before so I wasn’t sure what to expect.
What I got was a great read that kept me intrigued from beginning to end.
I enjoyed the banter between the characters which at times was quite comical and I found myself giggling my head off.
I loved the chemistry you could feel between both Charlie and Charlotte.
Their story was light hearted, fun and a joy to read.
And on the flip side it was at times raw and a little confronting.
A novel which mixed it up with highs and lows that kept me entertained.
Overall a great read which I recommend.

4 stars.

Our Book Review – I Was a Mistake: Another Type of Abuse by Shawn Woods

** Review by Kylie from Bloggers From Down Under **

“Children look to their parents for approval and when they don’t get that approval, they question themselves. They also have problems with self-esteem and confidence”

For me, agreeing to read and review this book, was a sort of therapy. I’ve read books that have touched on violent upbringings, but this is the first time I’ve read such a moving story about mental abuse of a child. And granted, the language is sometimes tricky to understand (due to the authors learning difficulties, which is mentioned before the first chapter), but once I got into the swing of the narrative, it was, sadly, like reading my own story.

I too am the girl who has never been shown praise by her parents. Nothing I ever did, even putting my teenage years on hold, was ever good enough. Even now, like Shawn, at 42 years of age, I dread the family gatherings. I dread the loud conversations where no names are mentioned, but they don’t need to be. I hear the whispers behind my back, I hear the nasty words spewing from their mouths. But that is my story.

So Shawn, from one victim to another, Thankyou, from the bottom of my fractured heart, Thankyou. Your words are forever etched into my memory xoxoxo

While this book may not be for everyone, I personally was left speechless and in absolute awe at the life Shawn has led, even with monumentous hurdles to overcome.

And hoping this makes you smile for only a second Shawn……. I AM SO PROUD OF YOU for having the courage to share your story.

5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Our Book Review – In Exchange For Jackie (In Exchange #1) by Tracy Gilmore

** Provided on behalf of the author for an honest review **
** Review by Gayle from Bloggers From Down Under **

Okay, okay…Where do I start….

What did I just read?
I have no words….
That was seriously twisted, like I can’t get my head around it twisted, but I absolutely loved it.

Meet Jackie.
She has what every girl dreams of.
The perfect marriage.
The perfect home.
Two beautiful boys.

But in the blink of an eye everything changes.
Her husband has left her.
Her boys are away at college.
She is left on her own.
She is alone.

But not for much longer.

She’s taken, kidnapped.
Held hostage.
They want money.
But her ex-husband isn’t interested.
He’s glad she is gone.
So Jackie is left on her own with three men.

How will she survive?
What will they do with her?
Will they keep her alive, or ultimately take her life?
Will this be Jackies last moments on earth?

You will just have to read In Exchange For Jackie to find out.

I have to say, this novel is as twisted as they come. Not for one second could I pinpoint what was going to happen. Not for one second could I even take it as a guess what would happen, because what I read completely through me.
Never once was this novel predictable. It kept me guessing the whole way through.
It has me engrossed from beginning to end.
All I can say if all things naughty, with multiple twists is your thing, then I highly recommend this novel. You won’t be disappointed.

Our Book Review – Love & Famiglia: The DiDominzio Novellas by Lyssa Layne

** Provided on behalf of the author for an honest review **
** Review by Kylie from Bloggers From Down Under **

” Meet the DiDominzio family- fiery, loud, Italian. Francesca, Antonia, Gianna and Carmine were raised by their strict, old school Italian father. Each sibling has their own journey but how they find their happily ever after definitely isn’t easy”

In this four part novel, we do exactly what Lyssa describes in her introduction. We meet each family member, and get a little sneak peek into the busy lives of each sibling. And even though all four stories are intertwined superbly, each story in itself is beautifully written.

In part one “The King and the Pawn” you’ll meet the youngest daughter, Francesca, an up and coming fashion designer (much to her fathers dismay). This girl has serious balls when she confronts her father, stating that she’s going against his wishes and starting a fashion line of her very own. All she needs is the money, and she’s hoping she can get the inheritance that was left for her a little early to make a start.

Francesca comes up with the perfect plan – bring home a man that her father will not approve of with the hope they can strike up some bargain, and see her granted the money she desperately needs.

What she doesn’t plan on is falling madly in love with non-Italian ex army seargeant Guy Sillers.

In part two “Not in Love” the second to youngest daughter Antonia, finds herself alone and pregnant to the man she thought she would spend the rest of her live with. Unfortunately said man is also married and expecting a child with his wife. Her greatest fear is facing her whole family with the news that she conceived a baby out of wedlock. But what will happen when her childhood friend Lorenzo steps up to the plate and says he will take responsibility for the baby? Maybe, just maybe love was right in front of Antonia the whole time.

In part three, “One day as a Lion”, sees the eldest sibling Gianna fighting her own battles in the form of her violent abusive husband. While her siblings feel something isn’t right, it’s not until Gianna takes the law into her own hands that she call on them for help. Also there to help her is Luca, the handsome police officer, who specialises in domestic violence cases. He knows the truth about what happened that night, but will he risk his relationship with this Italian beauty, or call her out in her lie?

In the final story “Destined for You”, Carmine’s, the only son, life revolves around his family and the club he opened years before. There’s no room in his life for serious relationships……..until he meets the gorgeous Italian Natalia. Together they will share so many firsts for both of them, but will soon come crashing down once Carine learns the true identity that Natalia has been hiding from him.

A truly magnificent book that I enjoyed immensely. I’ve read Lyssa’s previous works, so I kind of knew what I was in for, BUT this book is like nothing she has ever written before.
It won’t be long into the book that you’ll be uttering little Italian phrases……

Bellissima, dolcezza, bellisima xoxox

Our Book Review – Lucky by Carina Adams

** Provided on behalf of the author for an honest review **
** Review by Gayle from Bloggers From Down Under **

This…This novel….One word….Brilliant.

This is my first ever read by author Carina Adams, so naturally I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I as a reader/blogger was willing to take the chance.

What I got what a brilliantly written, detailed and in depth read that I couldn’t put down.

In this novel we meet Lucky, senior student at college, all american football star, who works at the local pub Hooligans. He has charm, charisma and a body to match. He is quite simply the full package and downright sinfully delicious.

We meet Sunny who is beautiful in her won right. Running from her past, Sunny has set herself up a new life, away from her damaging past. She is out with her best friend Blossom for a night of nights, to let loose, before she starts her job at the local college as a Professor. The girls end up at Hooligans.

That means one thing.
Lucky and Sunnys paths are about to cross.
One night that’s all they want.
They take the chance and spend the night one forgetting and enjoying all things naughty.

But what happens when reality hits?
What happens when their paths cross on campus, Lucky the student, Sunny the Professor?
They both know that a relationship is simply out of the question?
It goes against every policy.
But they can’t help it.
They need each other like they need air.

Can they keep it a secret?
Will their relationship be revealed?
Will they lose everything, Sunny her job, Lucky his scholarship?
How will it all end?

Guys I must say that in my time of blogging I have read student/teacher novels before and yes I have enjoyed them, but Lucky I absolutely loved.

Emotionally charged, raw, confronting, heartbreaking, heartwarming, lighthearted and all things sinful are just a few words that come to mind when reflecting on this novel. It was executed perfectly, with so much depth and detail that I couldn’t help but be drawn to every word on every page.
I instantly fell in love with Sunny and her sassiness and playfulness.
I instantly fell in love with Lucky and his charm and humour.
And both of them together…..Perfection.

A read that I cant rate highly enough. A must read.

Our Book Review – Just Listen (Mind Over Matter Book 1) by D Breeze

** Review by Gayle from Bloggers From Down Under **

It’s not often that I find myself losing the ability to write a review, for me as a blogger/reader it’s something that normally comes naturally…But I am at a complete loss for words right now….

Just Breathe touches on an extremely hard topic that many of us including those that suffer from it never quite understand. A condition that plagues the mind, that creates self doubt, self worth, that leaves a sufferer tormented by their own thoughts. It’s hard to breathe, to fight. Relationships are buckled under the weight of it all. Living, such a simple task that we all should enjoy, but sufferers of this find comfort in maybe, just maybe in taking their life away.
It’s called depression, and Just Breathe is about a man who lives with it daily.

It takes us on Jack’s journey where everyday is a fight, where every thought is jumbled.
It takes us on Devin’s journey. A woman who falls for Jack, but knows he is hiding something.
Jack and Devin, so completely opposite, but yet drawn to one another.
But can they survive?

I don’t want to give anything else away….But I will say this…

D Breeze…What you have given us with Just Breathe is nothing short of heart-wrenching, confronting and soul crushing. It’s thought provoking and breathtakingly beautiful.
A condition that has touched me personally that you executed with perfection.
This novel with stay with me always.
Jack will always be in my heart.
